The Stuttgart Book Club was started in 1999
by my friend Sarah and myself.

Having decided we couldn't face another Stammtisch, we advertised the launch of
a
book club in The Written Word (a news-
letter for English speakers in Baden Württemberg)
and held the first meeting on
a cold and snowy December evening in the Brasserie Légere (sadly no more) on Calwer Strasse. |
Since that memorable first evening, the club has grown and expanded, mainly by word-of-mouth. We've read a wide variety of books which have led to some great discussions!
We've also moved location to the Forum 3 Café on Gymnasium Strasse in Stadtmitte (we're usually to be found in the little room on the first floor, but best to contact me
to check first).
In January 2001 Sarah moved to England where she now runs the Cheltenham
Book Club!

If you are interested in reading and talking about books in English, then you're very welcome to come along – Please contact me, Helen, for more details about the next meeting.
The club is informal and friendly - we are not a "literature criticism group",
we just like to read and then get together and talk about what we've read!
You don't, of course, have to be a native English speaker to join - perhaps you want to brush up your English language skills, or you just enjoy reading, whatever the language?
If, however, you are specifically looking for English lessons, I would recommend that you contact your nearest language school to see what courses they offer.
